CHRRD Holds One-Day "Community Peace Building And Conflict Mediation" Workshop at, Igboho, Northern Oyo State21st October, 2003 - CHRRD held a one-day workshop and seminar, sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Lagos on ""Community Peace Building And Conflict Mediation" held at Orelope Local/Government Area, Igboho, Oyo State on the 16th October 2003. CHRRD staff present at the seminar included Comrade Mashood Erubami, Mr. Adeyemo Wale and Comrade Segun Ogundipe. Representing the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Lagos was Mr. Bash Olasupo.
A total of 78 participants attended the CHRRD session, representing men and women from professional bodies, Trade Unions and other stakeholders e.g. traditional chiefs, NURTW, NULGE, NUT, NATA, market women, students, police, i.e. where community violence have been noticed or experienced The Personalities at the high table were as follows:-
After this session, a 26-member committee was set up, called the Committee of Peace and Democracy Monitors (COPEDEM). Their primary duty is to serve as watchdog over democratic process, and community conflict mediators to propagate the principles and culture of peace-building and conflict mediation in their communities.
