Six Workshops on Minimising Political Violence Held

15 December, 2002 - In December 2002, CHRRD facilitated out a series of six one-day participatory workshops, sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Lagos.  On the topic of minimising political violence in the lead-up to the upcoming elections in Nigeria in 2003, the workshops reached approximately six hundred stakeholders, including Local Government Transition Committees, political party leaders, civil servants and members of civil society groups.  The six local government councils that participated were all situated in south-western Nigeria:  Iwo, Osogbo (Osun State); Abeokuta (Ogun State); Iseyin, Ibadan (Oyo State); Offa (Kwara State).  A follow-up assessment workshop was conducted, involving representatives from all six councils took place in Ilorin on 7 February, 2003.
