Program Update
HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Update 2 As a continuation of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, CHRRD promoted Peer Education Training. This built on the enthusiasm that came about during the Sensitization Seminar, which mobilized awareness for the training of Peer Educators. During this part of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, 3-4 volunteer coordinators were established in 3 communities in Lagelu. The maximum participation capacity of 50 Peer Educators was achieved. The Peer Educators were given direction on: Training Circles; Basic Facts about HIV/AIDS; Adolescents and Sexuality; Clarification of Values, Attitudes, and Risk Behaviours; Peer Education Systems; Communication Issues Around Condoms, and; Evaluation. Two training sessions were held, in order to best accommodate participants. These took place on August 25-26 and September 26-27, 2005. After the training sessions were over, a schedule of monthly meetings was established, indicating CHRRD’s ongoing support for the Educators, as well as providing a space where Peer Educators will share the issues they face. Throughout this training session, CHRRD Project Coordinators were overwhelmed by the high enthusiasm and hope among the trainees. This in itself is an indicator of the success of the program.
